Treating pain in the mid and low back in Virginia Beach.
Chiropractors have become the the foremost experts when it comes to treating conditions of the spine. These are our most basic cases. There are many different issues that can cause pain of the mid and low back. Arthritis, herniated disc, facet syndrome, sprain/strains, spinal stenosis, and subluxation just to name a few. As chiropractors we are trained to diagnose and treat these conditions.
Consultation, orthopedic and neurological exam and x-rays are our primary tools in determining what condition we are dealing with. Chiropractors rate very high in patient satisfaction partly because we do such a great job educating our patients and explaining the various treatment options available. Even more satisfying is the reduction in pain following treatments.
At New Life Chiropractic we pride ourselves in getting quick results and educating our patients on how to achieve health in the years to come. Having a fully functional spine is only part of the equation. Rest, exercise, nutrition and stress reduction also play large roles.
There are several treatment options available for treating the mid and low back. The treatments range from a very light instrument adjustment to a more aggressive hands on manual treatment. None of the treatment types should be painful if done correctly. With years of experience I have become highly skilled at determining the right treatment for each individual. If you are tired of the muscle relaxers, pain pills and steroids which only mask the symptoms it may be time to get a more permanent and natural correction for you mid and low back pain. Same day appt.
Treatment for back pain during pregnancy in Virginia Beach.
Back pain during pregnancy is an extremely common occurrence for several reasons. The first and most obvious cause is the large increase in the curve of the low back. This can cause increased stretching of the tendons and ligaments in the area which makes them sore. This condition also causes the pelvis to rock forward leading to postural instability which also causes the back and hips to ache. Increases in abdominal pressure and pressure from the baby can cause direct nerve irritation causing both low back and radiant leg pain.
Unfortunately there are very few pain medications that are safe for both mom and baby. Activities like stretching and yoga may give some relief early on but become difficult if not impossible as the pregnancy progresses. Chiropractic to the rescue!!
The concern is always “is chiropractic safe during pregnancy”? The answer to that is a huge yes. There are no contraindications to chiropractic during the entire pregnancy. This being said it is best to go to a chiropractor with experience in treating expecting moms. Over the last twenty years I have treated many pregnant women. At New Life we have tables design to accommodate the growing belly by having a section that drops down to make space. This makes the treatment very pleasant. Several adjusting techniques can be used, one is even specific to help breach babies turn to the correct position. PAINLESSLY.
Pain reduction is a given but ease of delivery is an often over looked benefit of treatment. Helping the pelvis accommodate the baby and ease into correct position greatly helps during the birthing process. All in all chiropractic is a very safe and effective form of treatment for back pain during pregnancy. Dr Geheren is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and is trained in the Webster Technique as well as an expert at pediatric adjusting. Call Today!!
This is a chart of some of my favorite stretches and exercises for low back pain. These exercises should be done lightly and not pushed to the point of increased pain. All should be done once a day
Healthy adults require at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise daily to maintain or improve their weight and heart health, according to the American Heart Association’s guidelines. However, having a sore lower back impedes your ability to do high-impact exercise. The additional shock to your muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones can worsen your condition. Choose lower-impact cardiovascular activities to burn fat effectively and stay safe. Follow these exercises for low back pain. If your lower back pain persists, speak with your Virginia Beach Chiropractor..
The following is a statement made by Dr. Ray Wilbur former president of Stanford University and The American Academy of Medicine.
“New treatments make use of heat, cold, water, electricity, and specific manipulations. They bring biological responces more potent than many of the drugs gathered through the centuries by trial and error. Medicine based on pills and potions is becoming obsolete. The medical profession will profit by recognizing this new concept, and must insist that its schools promptly mold instruction to conform with the new knowledge of body mechanics.”
This was true in 1977 when it was written and even more so today.
